Kate DiCamillo Visits the Library

Noted writer Kate DiCamillo visited the Central Resource Library this past Saturday. Kate’s books include The Tale of Desperaux, winner of the 2004 Newbery Medal, and Because of Winn Dixie, a 2001 Newbery honor book. On Saturday afternoon Kate gave a presentation to a packed room of kids and their parents. Following the presentation, Kate took the time to sign books for everyone.

If you missed the event or just want to share it with a friend, you can catch a recording of the event in our Literary Events Online Archive. And, you do want to listen; the presentation was filled with questions from kids and adults topped with Kate’s great sense of humor.

Check out a few photos from the event along with a photo gallery.

More photos are available in the Kate DiCamillo Photo Gallery.

Freedom Mural

The teens and local artist Ryan Tenney have been hard at work the past month painting a teen mural. The mural is a visual representation of the teen’s view of what democracy means to them and has been titled the Freedom Mural.

The unveiling of the Freedom Mural is scheduled for September 5 at the Central Resource Library. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will be celebrated with the reading of poetry and refreshments. Come out to the Central Resource Library and enjoy the artistic creativity of Johnson County’s local teens.

For now, here are some pictures of the teens working on the mural.
